KOTA KINABALU: A mother and son were killed in a fire which destroyed their home in Tenom early Saturday.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said the victims, Wong Siu Mei, 46, and Wong Ka Seng, 8, were found side by side in a room upstairs.
"Their charred remains were discovered after firemen managed to bring the fire under control," she said in a statement.
She said the mother's body was found next to her son's bed while the son was on the bed.
Khatizah said Siu Mei's husband, Wong Vun Tsung, 38, sustained burns and was rescued.
"He has been sent to the hospital for treatment," she said.
Investigations on the cause of the fire are being carried out.
