Wrestler loses medals in fire
Updated: 2013-10-04-09:15
National wrestler M. Aliansyah has reportedly lost most of his medals and trophies after a fire gutted his house in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.
The incident took place last Friday, according to Antara, while he was in Jakarta at the national training center in preparation for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar.
His house was among 72 gutted by the fire, which left 412 people displaced.
“I’m really sad because aside from the house, the fire also burned all my belongings, including the gold, silver and bronze medals — proof of my achievements — that I [and my siblings] had won,” Aliyansyah, who specializes in the 60-kilogram event, said on Thursday.
He said he had requested permission to see his family but his mother called and advised him to concentrate on his training.
Aliyansyah was a gold medalist at the 2011 SEA Games, a silver medalist at the 2009 SEA Games, and gold medalist at the 2008 and 2012 National Games. His five brothers are also national wrestlers.
