Fire hits Silverio compound of informal settlers in Parañaque, traffic snarled
Updated: 2013-10-09-22:25
A fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit razed at least 10 houses in the Silverio Compound in Parañaque City Wednesday morning.
“Initial investigation namin, ang pinagmulan electrical. May nag-aayos ng kuryente kagabi (Our initial finding is that the fire stemmed from an electrical short circuit. Some people were reportedly trying to fix an electrical connection last night),” city fire marshal Superintendent Manuel Manuel said in an interview on dzBB radio.
When asked if the fire could have something to do with last year’s violent confrontation between residents and demolition teams, he said, “wala yan (no it isn’t).”
Manuel also said no one was initially reported injured in the fire.
The fire reached the second alarm at Silverio Compound and was placed under control before 11 a.m.
It briefly caused the closure of a part of the northbound lane of Imelda Avenue, dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported. — ELR, GMA News
