Massive fire at Tehrathum

TEHRATHUM: A massive fire broke out at two market places in Tehrathum on Saturday night.
Seven houses in Myanglung bazar and three at Deudi bazaar of Aathrai have been destroyed by the fire.
According to Chief District Officer Kalika Prasad Parajuli, five houses of Chiranjibi Shrestha of Myanglung bazar, each house of Jaya Prasad Dhakal and Raghunath Shrestha were reduced to ashes in the fire. A house of Nagendra Shrestha was also damaged in course of taking the fire under control.
Eleven shops, one electronic, one cosmetic, one readymade cloth store, a fancy store, three hotels, a dairy and a meat shop- have been gutted. Details of the loss of property in the fire are being collected, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Umashankar Panjiyar.
Short-circuit is supposed to be the cause of fire that was spread from a fancy shop owned by Kshitiz Rai at around 12:45 midnight.
The fire was contained with the help of the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Nepal Army and the locals after three hours. The local administration also called a fire engine from Dharan to prevent further damage but it was sent back from Vedetar after the security personnel and local became successful in taking the fire under control.
The Myanglung bazaar had witnessed this type of a big fire some 12 years back on December 8, 2002 in which eighty-six houses had been destroyed.
Similarly, a fire in the Deudi bazaar in the night of Saturday destroyed three houses of Prahlad Upreti, Arun Kangdangwa and Khagendra Tamang. The fire that was spread from a house of Upreti all of sudden at around 11:30 pm caught other two houses also. It took three houses for the security people and locals to douse the fire.
