NDRRMC: 82 families lose homes in Davao City fire
Updated: 2013-10-25-08:31
At least 82 families lost their homes after a fire razed 27 houses in a residential area in Davao City Thursday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday.
In its report, the NDRRMC said the fire started at about 10 a.m. at Purok 6 in Barangay 12-B Poblacion in Davao City.
The NDRRMC said 82 families or 474 people were affected and are now staying at tempoerary shelters at the barangay covered court, San Roque Chapel, and Barrio Patag Purok 6.
Citing initial information, the NDRRMC said arson investigators are looking into an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire.
An earlier report by radio dzBB’s Margaret Zapanta said the razed structures included boardinghouses where employees of nearby malls were staying.
Investigation also showed the fire spread quickly because most of the houses in the area were made of wood.
Some residents managed to flee from their homes with some of their belongings, but most escaped with just the clothes they were wearing. — LBG, GMA News
