Consultant From Penang Killed In Tanjung Manis Fire

SIBU, Oct 29 (Bernama) — A consultant was killed in a fire that broke out at the Sarawak Timber Industry Corporation workers quarters at the 90th Kilometre Tanjung Manis/Sungai Bidut Road in Tanjung Manis near here at about 6.50am this morning.
The victim has been identified as Ravendran A/L Chrishnan, in his 50’s, and came from Pulau Penang.
Sungai Merah( Sibu) Fire and Rescue Centre officer Mashidi Taha said his charred remains was found near a door on the first floor.
The victim had worked in the area since three years ago.
Mishidi said the Sungai Merah centre recieved a call about the fire at about 7.04am.
He added 12 firefighters were rushed to the scene in a fire truck and two four-wheel drives.
“They arrived there at 8.10am and managed to bring the fire under control by 8.30am.
“By then the quarters was more than 60 per cent destroyed,”he said.
He said the victim’s body was sent to the Sarikei General Hospital in Sarikei town while the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
