DHADING: Two masked youth today set afire a jeep that UCPN-Maoist Dhading constituency-1 candidate Pushpa Bikram Malla was using for his election publicity campaign. The driver and owner of the hired vehicle, who were inside the vehicle during the arson, managed to jump off the burning vehicle, which was destroyed in the incident.
The youngsters had doused the vehicle with petrol before torching it at Alainche of Muralibhanjyang VDC-4 along the Dhadingbesi-Salyantar road in Dhading. Driver Sushil Adhikary said two masked youth stopped the jeep — heading to Khahare from Dhadingbesi with election materials — poured petrol on it and set it afire while he and the jeep owner were inside. “We jumped off the burning jeep and saved our lives,” Adhikary said.
UCPN-Maoist (Dhading) has blamed the CPN-Maoist for the arson. The CPN-M has not commented on the allegation.
Dhading district police office confirmed torching of a jeep. It said the District Election Office had allowed Malla to use the vehicle for transporting election materials.
“A manhunt for the culprits is on,” police said.
