Fire hits Makati commercial building
Updated: 2012-08-02-12:27
MANILA, Philippines – A two-story commercial building in Barangay Cembo in Makati City was hit by fire on Wednesday night, leaving a city fireman injured and at least P1.5 million in damages.
Makati Fire marshal Ric Perdigon said city firefighters on 12 firetrucks rushed to the burning Guadalupe Arcadia located along J.P. Rizal Extension St. after the fire started at about 9:29 p.m.
Perdigon said the fire started at the unit being occupied by Golan Siomai, a shop that makes dumplings.
Perdigon said the fire spread to the rest of the building, gutting another seven establishments.
The fire reached third alarm and was put out at around 10:33 p. m.
Perdigon said a Makati fireman, Sr. Fire Officer 4 Edgar Novales was hurt after debris fell on his right foot.
Arson investigators suspect that the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring as the fire started from the second floor ceiling of the dumpling shop as alleged by Jesus Tolentino, a security guard.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation pero malamang electrical ang cause based doon sa statement ng security guard,” said Perdigon.
