Fire in Marine Drive flat; no one home during incident

A fire broke out on Monday evening at a Marine Drive flat after a section of a study table in the living room caught fire.
No one was home at the time of the incident, which happened in a 19th floor unit in Block 72. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at 6.13pm to the fire and dispatched a fire engine, red rhino, ambulance and a support vehicle to the flat.
Fire-fighters put out the fire with an extinguisher. No one was injured, said SCDF. It is investigating the cause of the fire.
The SCDF urges residents not to hoard combustible items at home, as this can fuel a fire and block evacuation during an emergency, a spokesman said.
