BEIRUT: A fire erupted at a tire warehouse in north Lebanon Thursday leaving a Syrian and a Lebanese worker badly injured.
The depot in the town of Amyoun belonged to Salim Abeid, the National News Agency said, adding that the Syrian laborer was in critical condition.
The two workers suffered from burn injuries and were transferred to a nearby hospital in the area
Civil Defense and residents of the town managed to put out the flames later in the day.
The head of Amyoun Municipality said the warehouse was unlicensed.
“This depot does not have a license to operate and [its] owner applied for one but the municipality turned it down,” Mayor Ghassan Karam told the NNA.
“After we issued a warning to the owner, he promised to close the depot but it is still working which is the reason behind today’s fire,” he added.
