Three injured in leather unit fire
Updated: 2013-11-19-04:12
KOLKATA: Three people were injured in a fire that broke out at a leather manufacturing unit in Tiljala on Monday afternoon. Two fire engines doused the fire in about an hour.
Locals spotted smoke billowing out of the unit at Tiljala Second Lane around 12.30pm. They acted fast and rescued the three workers who were trapped inside. “All the three injured persons were taken to a local nursing home and were released after primary medical aid,” said police.
It took two fire tenders nearly an hour to douse the flames. “The main problem was water as there is no big source nearby. Our men had to depend on their stock but locals did their bit. Without their help, it would have been difficult to douse the flames,” a fire officer said.
Firemen said a short
circuit might have led to the blaze that spread quickly because of inflammable materials stored in the factory.
