VADODARA: A major fire broke out at a company manufacturing incense sticks at Makarpura GIDC estate in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the fire department, the fire broke out at around 4.30am on Wednesday, the reasons for which are still unknown.
By the time firemen reached the spot, flames had engulfed a large part of the building due to which a ‘major call’ was announced by the department and fire vehicles were dispatched from all stations in the city.
No injuries were reported in the incident as everyone working in the building had rushed out on time.
“We will be investigating the reason for the fire once it is completely extinguished,” said a fire official. Until 11.30am, firemen continued salvaging activity as smoke continued to rise from within the building.
As many as 17 fire vehicles and 35 firemen were deployed to douse the fire.
“There was difficulty initially as there was just one door to enter the building. Our major concern was that the fire should not spread to perfume used in the incense sticks,” said fire officer Nikunj Azad of Makarpura GIDC fire station.
He added that the perfume was kept at the other end of the building, yet firemen could move it before it could catch fire.
