Updated: 2013-11-24-12:29

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) — Twenty motorcycles and a Mercedes-Benz car belonging to customers were destroyed in a fire at three adjoining workshops in Jalan Semarak, here, Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue operations assistant director, Azizan Ismail said the three shoplots destroyed in the 5.40 fire were a motorcycle workshop, a car workshop and welding workshop, located near the Sungai Bonus Public Housing Project (PPR).

“We received a call at 5.42pm and six fire-engines with 32 firemen rushed to the scene and managed to put out the blaze by 6.40pm,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

There was no reported loss of life. The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still being investigated.

The motorcycle workshop owner, Mohd Fadhil Jamail said he and his workers were not at the workshop at the time as it was closed.

“I had gone to the workshop at about 2.30pm and then left for lunch with my family after closing the workshop. Later, I received a call from a friend about the fire,” he said.

Mohd Fadhil said there were at least 50 motorcycles belonging to his customers at the workshop and he estimated his losses at RM50,000.
