Kerala: Fire breaks out at toy shop in Thiruvananthapuram
Updated: 2021-05-31
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fire broke out at a toy shop in Chalai area of Kerala’s capital city Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
The two-storey shop was shut due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Neighbouring residents and shop owners saw fire emanating from the temporary storage area set up atop the second floor of the shop and alerted the fire force.
Three units from Chenkalchoola, one from Chackai reached the spot and started fire fighting operation.
An additional fire fighting unit has been called from Vizhinjam.
The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Chalai market, an otherwise busy street, was relatively empty on Monday.
Barring a few shops selling essential commodities, no other shops were open in the market.
Chalai has been prone to frequent fire incidents due to unscientific constructions without any regard for fire safety norms.
