An estimated P26 million worth of damage has been reported after a fire hit a portion of a building in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, the Bureau of Fire Protection – National Capital Region said Friday.
In an update, the bureau said that at least two persons were injured in the fire. They were identified as Severino Dequina, 26, who sustained laceration on finger; and Henry Florida, 44, who sustained abrasion on one of his fingers.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the bureau.
On Thursday, a fire hit the 24th floor of Mega Tower in Barangay Wack Wack around 10:26 a.m. and was declared under control at 1:52 p.m. It was declared a fire out at 3:50 pm.
Fire Superintendent Alberto de Baguio, Mandaluyong City Fire Marshall, said some people were inside the building during the incident. The Philippine Air Force said a total of 96 civilians were rescued.
SM Investments Corp., the developer of Mega Tower, said everyone in the building was safely evacuated and given immediate medical attention. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
