Telangana: 39-year-old doctor burnt to death as car catches fire

Updated: 2021-09-19

HYDERABAD: An orthopaedic surgeon was charred to death after his car caught fire on Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Shamshabad on Saturday night.

Police identified the deceased as N Sudheer (39), a resident of KPHB. On Saturday, at around 8pm, Sudheer’s sedan variant car caught fire all of a sudden at Pedda Golconda.

By the time he could stop the car, it was engulfed in flames.

It was a pending e-challan against the vehicle, which helped the police identify the deceased.

When the police came to know about the incident, they also alerted the fire department and a fire tender reached the spot and doused the flames around 8.45pm. By this time he was charred to death.

It turned out to be a challenge for the police to identify the body since the car, driver’s body, mobile phone, wallet and watch were completely burnt.

Luckily, the number plate of the car got detached in the mishap. But it became black due to the smoke.

Investigators could identify the number plate. There was a pending e-challan against the vehicle number.

Using the phone number registered against the challan, the police started their investigation to reach out to the deceased’s family members to identify the charred body and share the tragic news with them.

Police reportedly have accessed the call data records on this phone number and reached out to his sister, to whom the doctor last spoke.

“Informing his family members that he is going out, the doctor left his KPHB house at around 6.30pm without telling exactly where he was going. From KPHB, he took ORR at Gachibowli and the fire mishap took place at Pedda Golconda. It is quite possible that he was only on his way to some professional work,” Shamshabad sub-inspector K Satya Kumar said.

After knowing that a man got trapped in a fire accident, deputy commissioner of police N Prakash Reddy and other senior officials rushed to the spot on Saturday night.

Police suspect that since he was wearing the seat belt and the doors also got jammed, perhaps he could not come out. The officials had to remove the door by force to bring the charred body out. The legs, hands and head were charred and almost became ashes.

“The remaining body got stuck to the rods of the burnt seat. With great difficulty the body remains of the deceased were brought out from the car,” Shamshabad police said.
