A FIRE engulfed a two-storey wooden house belonging to Dyg Saidah binti Hj Mahali along the vicinity of Kg Pancha Delima yesterday morning leaving 19 people in a state of shock and without a home.
The Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs attributed the cause of the fire to faulty electrical wiring following an investigation.
The eldest member of the family of 19 affected by the blaze is 59 years old and the youngest two.
Four fire engines from the Berakas Fire Station and Women Operations Unit were deployed to the scene shortly after a distress call was made at 8.32am.
A total of 15 fire personnel under the command of Station Officer Hj Mustapa bin Hj Mohammad managed to douse the fire in under three minutes.
However, the fire by then had already caused substantial damage and the losses were estimated at around $100,000.
The losses included a motor vehicle, two motorbikes, one boat and two outboard engines.
Also present at the site was the Acting Director of Fire and Rescue Department, Awg Lim Hock Guan, and Acting Commanding Officer of Operation ‘C’, Othman Jailani bin Hj Ismail.
