Three burnt alive as vehicles catch fire after collision on Kanpur-Sagar highway

KANPUR: Three people were burnt alive after a truck collided head-on with a trailer on the Kanpur-Sagar highway on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
A 40-year-old driver Karan Chhedi and a 19-year-old cleaner Arvind, residents of Chuaran village of Chhatarpur, were going towards Kanpur with a barley-laden truck.
The incident occurred around 2.30am on the highway near Amauli village.
Soon after the collision, the two vehicles caught fire.
Arvind saved his life by jumping out of the vehicle, while the injured driver and an attendant trapped in the trailer and Karan Chhedi, the driver trapped in the truck, were burnt alive.
The police have identified the deceased driver of the trailer as Rudrapal (45) and it’s cleaner Aniket (24), both residents of Fatehpur district.
Several fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire, the police said.
Kanpur-Sagar highway was blocked for several hours and the traffic was eased out by 7am, they said.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief over the road accident and instructed senior officers to reach the spot to help the victims.
