BIRATNAGAR: Dozens of shops were gutted after a fire broke out from Bread Industry and a jute godown at the main bazaar of Biratnagar today morning. The blaze broke out suddenly from Laxmi Bread Industry and the jute godown in Biratnagar at around 4:00 am today.
According to SP Bishowraj Pokharel, the blaze destroyed property worth Rs 37 lakh. The industry and godown belonging to Suresh Sahani and Jugal Sahani respectively and some dozen shops have turned into ashes, police said.
Fire engines from Biratnagar, Itahari, Dharan and Inaruwa and police personnel along with locals brought the blaze under control after four hours. The raw materials of the bread industry, socks of the godown and houses were destroyed. The reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
Fire fighters Debal Kumar Rai and Bhakta Bahadur Tamang of of Dharan and Itahari received minor injuries. Both are being treated at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar.
