Ludhiana: Massive fire breaks out in PSPCL grid in Raikot

The fire broke out at around 4.30pm on Friday.
LUDHIANA: A massive fire broke out in 66 kv power grid of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Friday evening.
The fire tenders from Raikot, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Barnala and air forces station Halwara were put on fire controlling task.
There was sudden blast in one transformer and two more transformers were about to come to risk but fire fighters saved two transformers from being burnt while gutted completely. The power supply in the nearby areas got affected.
The fire broke out at around 4.30pm and fire brigade was informed about the incident.
The fore fighters claimed that flames were so high and intense that it was quite difficult to work there. However with great difficulty they could douse the flames and prevent spreading of fire to other parts of grid. The fire came under control in almost two hours.
The sub fire officer Satinder Pal Virk said, “We used foam to douse flames and at least 2.25 liters of foam was used in controlling the fire completely. But temperature was so high that angels melted down in fire.”
He said it is difficult to say anything about exact cause of fire but it might be due to overheating of transformer which remains full of oil.
Meanwhile deputy chief engineer operations sub urban circle Ludhiana Anil kumar said, “The reason behind fire will be investigated later on as first we are restoring the power supply in affected areas. We have restored supply on Bassian while Raikot will also be restored in next few hours.”
