Narrow lanes in the area delayed the firefighting operation
MARGAO: A major fire broke out in a building housing a hotel and several other commercial establishments, located meters away from a petrol pump, in the wee hours of Tuesday. Two persons who sustained minor injuries were rushed to a hospital.
Sources in the fire and emergency services said that they received a call at about 2.20am informing them about the building on fire. Fire fighters battled against the raging flames for close to four hours before the fire could be tamed down.
Three shops dealing in clothes, one dealing in X’mas decorative items, and a godown were completely gutted in the fire.
Fire brigade sources put the estimated loss at Rs 1.35 crore. Cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Altogether seven fire tenders and 20 fire fighters were engaged in the fire fighting exercise.
