A fire at a slum in Chittagong’s Khulshi has destroyed 35 shacks.
“The fire broke out at 1pm Monday burning homes and belongings of the poor people of the slum,” Jashim Uddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service in Chittagong, told bdnews24.com.
He could not say the extent of the damage caused by the fire, which has exposed the slum dwellers to the January cold.
“The fire might have originated from an electric short circuit or from a cooking stove. We could not be sure. “
Three units of fire fighters doused the blaze after almost two hours of fire fighting, he said.
Four fire fighters have received minor injuries and were administered first aid.
