Eighty homes were completely destroyed in a blaze on December 10 near the railway in the Boeung Kak area of the capital’s Daun Penh district.
The National Police reported that the fire started due to an electrical fault at a home owned by a 58-year-old housewife.
The resulting inferno razed “a total of 80” homes in groups 34, 35 and 39 of Srah Chak commune’s Village 2, the report said, adding that there were no fatalities or major injuries. A “group” is an administrative area below the village level.
National Police said 45 fire engines and 127 water tankers were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
