LUDHIANA: A major fire broke out in a textile unit Jawandsons private Limited at Chandigarh Road on Wednesday.
The fire was at fourth floor of the factory and black smoke had covered the entire sky. It was visible from Samrala Chowk and commuters were posting videos of black smoke at social media. The fire brigade had to struggle hard for controlling the fire because of the heavy winds.
A shed at fourth floor also collapsed due to which it became hard to control the fire. The factory staff was also helping the fire brigade to douse the flames as they had their own fire fighting equipment installed in the unit.
The fire station officer Maninder Singh said: “We had come to know about the fire incident at 3pm and 10 fire tenders were rushed towards the spot. The smoke is very thick and it is creating difficulties in controlling the fire. We are not aware of the exact cause of fire but the workers had noticed the smoke and created hue and cry.” He said luckily there is no information about any casualty or injury but it will take time to control the situation.
Meanwhile the panic gripped Chandigarh Road where commuters saw black smoke in the sky. The fire tenders were also moving there for controlling the situation and from seven sides the fire fighters were trying to control the fire.
