Fire breaks out at biscuit factory

Kanpur: A major fire broke out in a biscuit factory, located in the Sachendi area of the district, on Thursday morning.
Due to the combustible material dumped inside the factory, the fire spread fast and soon engulfed a major portion of the biscuit manufacturing unit.
Due to the thick column of smoke that covered the entire area, locals faced difficulty in breathing.
Following efforts, the fire was doused after six hours with the help of about half a dozen fire tenders that reached the spot. Along with the police, locals thronged the spot to take note of the mishap. Panicked workers, sensing danger, ran out of the factory.
There is no estimate yet regarding the damage caused by the fire. Further action will be taken based on the report of the fire department.
Police further said that the biscuit factory, located at Dharamangadpur road, belongs to one Sudhir Gupta, who lives in Rawatpur area of the city.
Sachendi police station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh said that the factory workers attributed the fire to a short circuit in the electric panel.
“At around 9:30 am on Thursday, fire broke out following massive sparking in the electronic panel of the unit. On this, the employees tried to remove the combustible material, including the cartons of polybag dumped near the electric panel. Soon, the fire engulfed a major portion and the situation went out of control,” he said.
