LUDHIANA: A major fire incident was reported in a hardware store on Rahon Road on Sunday early morning. The flames were so intense that firefighters had to struggle a lot in dousing those and moreover there was no way to enter the building.
The firefighters had to first break the walls of store from adjoining buildings so as to make way for smoke and flames to come out.
The fire had engulfed double-storey building completely and stock kept inside gutted in fire.
The fire tenders made more than 50 rounds to control fire in 7.5 hours.
It was at around at 4 am that the fire call was received through nearby residents about fire in this store.
First fire tender was rushed from Sunder Nagar fire station but when firemen who reached first informed central fire station about intensity of fire asked for more fire tenders. Since LPG cylinder was also kept at first floor of the store it blasted suddenly and terrace got damaged.
The fire fighters also argued with owner for not informing them about cylinder inside.
The fire fighters also used foam to control the fire. The flames coming out of balcony of store even burnt the high tension wires passing from there.
The sub fire officer Aatish Rai said, “The fire was not coming under control unless we made holes in the walls from three sides but it consumed lot of time as there was no space to move. One adjoining building that was vacant was opened and used to reach store for spilling water. We broke wall from two side from terrace of adjoining building.”
He said then there was no arrangement of water supply nearby and we had to send the fire tenders to Sunder Nagar fire station for refilling
He said luckily there was no loss of life and nobody received injuries.
