Updated: 2022-02-24
TRICHY: An employee suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out at Aavin Dairy in Trichy on Wednesday night. A furnace oil leakage in the pre-heater of one of the two boilers caused the fire around 11.45 pm, Aavin Dairy Trichy general manager R Abirami said.
Employees tried to put out the fire with extinguishers. Fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot. Station fire officer M Melchioraja said the Aavin staff was attempting to put out the fire. “We applied foam and doused the fire in 15 minutes,” he said.
The injured man was rescued and given first aid before rushing him to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH). He was shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
Stating that the accident caused no issues to the boilers, Abiramni said a detailed assessment of the fire accident would be done. One of the two boilers is always kept as spare. The GM said Aavin had ensured that the daily usual supply of 1.25 litre of milk in sachets was unaffected by the fire accident.
