UP: Driver charred to death as CNG truck bursts into flames on NH2 in Mathura

Updated: 2022-02-25

AGRA: A truck driver was charred to death inside his CNG vehicle on NH-2 in Mathura’s highway area after it caught fire on Friday. The truck was heading to Agra from Delhi.

Police said the mishap took place around 3 am when the truck with Delhi registration number, loaded with shoes and slippers, caught fire after it rammed into another vehicle. The driver, KK, who hailed from Etah, got trapped inside and was burnt alive.

By the time police and fire services personnel reached the spot, the driver was already dead. The exact cause of the fire will be known only after an investigation, said police.

Station Fire Officer Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal said, “prima facie it seems that the truck caught fire after a short circuit due to collision. As the vehicle was being operated on a CNG cylinder, gas leak could have spread the flames and within seconds it had engulfed the truck.

He said, the body has been sent for post mortem. The victim’s nephew who was also driving a truck ahead of his uncle reached the spot and identified him. Two fire brigades reached the spot and it took them over an hour to douse the flames.

Just 10 days ago, a man, who was later identified as Toshiba Company’s general manager, Shailesh Upadhyaya, was burnt alive at Mathura bus stand after the passenger bus in which he was sitting caught fire. He got stuck in the window while desperately trying to wriggle out. He had boarded the bus to travel from Mathura to Aligarh.
