Thiruvananthapuram: A major fire broke out at a multi-storey building at Vembayam outside the city on Saturday evening in which one person is suspected to have been harmed.
Medley Hub, a hardware shop functioning in a four-storey building, is the one that caught fire. The fire broke out around 7.30 pm.
Sources in the police said one person, whose name is believed to be Nisam, who was in the building at the time of the fire, is missing and is feared to be trapped inside the building. Fire and rescue services personnel said they received the alert around 7.30 pm. Two fire fighting units were sent to the spot immediately. Since the flames were strong, more units from Attingal and Nedumangad fire stations, too, were pressed into service.
While two of the floors of the building functioned as shops selling paints and electrical and hardware materials, two floors were used as garages. TNN
