Fire breaks out at School of Drama campus

Thrissur: A fire broke out at the Calicut University School of Drama campus at Aranattukara here on Thursday morning. According to fire brigade officials, the fire originated in the neighbouring paddy field and spread to the campus.
One of the rooms in Ramanujam theatre on the campus was completely gutted. Furniture, costumes and theatre set materials kept in another room were also gutted. The fire destroyed the bamboo groves and other rare trees and plants on the campus. Campus director Sreejith Ramanan said the fire has caused a loss of about Rs 30 lakh.
The fire was doused through the joint efforts of fire-brigade personnel, civil defence force members and students. It took about four hours to control the fire. Three fire-tenders from Thrissur were pressed into service. TNN
