Jammu and Kashmir: Four dead, 13 injured in fire at scrap shop

Jammu: Four persons, including a child, were charred to death while at least 13 others sustained burn injuries in a massive fire at a scrap store which also triggered an LPG cylinder explosion on Monday.
The incident took place at Residency Road in Jammu, in a lane opposite Tourism Reception Centre, police said.
“A major fire broke out on Monday evening inside the complex of a scrap dealer due to short circuit which later triggered LPG cylinder blast at Residency Road in the heart of the city.”
In a statement issued this evening, Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Chandan Kohli said, “The fire was caused by a suspected short circuit and later intensified after the subsequent explosion of LPG cylinders inside the store.”
“All injured have been evacuated from the site with hectic efforts of Police, Fire and Emergency Services assisted by locals and all injured are under treatment in Govt Medical College (GMC) Jammu. He said that the rescue operation is going on.
“The identity of the victims was not immediately known,” the police officer added.
Fire and Emergency Services put seven fire tenders to douse the flames billowing from the scarp shop.
Police reports said 13 injured were admitted in GMC vide MLC no 1189 to 1201 and four were brought dead.
They said that the injured being hospitalized include Marjeema Khatoon (23); Anwar Hussain (53); Momina Khatoon (25); Menar-ul-Hussain (3 yrs) s/o Mehju Din;. Baby (07), Asrar-ul-Islam (19) s/o Anwar Hussain; Mehju Din (25) s/o Anwar Hussain; Sukitam (24) w/o zehrulla islam; Semirinisa (30) w/o Ishub r/o Assam; Suzu Bano (04) s/o Ishub (all residents of Assam); Anku Ram Alias Antu (53)s/o Krishan Lal r/o Gole Gujral Jammu; Pappu (45) s/o Babu Lal r/o Bihar A/p Bhagwati nagar and Nilma who has sustained 80% burns (35).
“The dead bodies of a lady, one child, and two males were shifted to the mortuary for postmortem and identification,” police said.
Meanwhile, at least four policemen suffered injuries when an LPG cylinder exploded inside Bhaderwah jail in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Police said that the cylinder caught fire and exploded in which four police personnel sustained injuries. “The injured were given the treatment and are under observation,” police said.
