Updated: 2022-03-17

The fire, triggered due to an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioner unit, was first spotted on the first floor around 2 pm.

CHENNAI: A three-storey building on Anna Nagar main road was gutted by fire on Wednesday afternoon. There were no casualties.

Fire and rescue personnel broke open the terrace door and rescued 29 people. Six others who were trapped on the third floor were later rescued using a sky-lift ladder. The victims were given first aid by the para-medics staff who were waiting outside the accident spot and later treated as out-patients at the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital.

The fire, triggered due to an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioner unit, was first spotted on the first floor around 2 pm. Rescue personnel said there were about 25 employees present in an IT services firm, where the fire originated.

The building houses offices of Esaf Small Finance Limited on the ground floor, SBS Building Construction Private Limited on the third floor and India Bulls Housing Finance Limited and Srikanth Solutions Private Limited on the second floor.

At least 70 fire personnel from fire stations Anna Nagar, Koyambedu, JJ Nagar, Villivakkam, Kilpauk, Sembium, Ashok Nagar, Maduravoyal and Vepery rushed to the spot and put out the blaze around 4 pm. At least six metro water tankers were pressed into the service.
