LUCKNOW: Four shops were gutted in a minor fire that broke out in Naveen fruit and vegetable market in Aliganj area of Lucknow in the wee hours of Sunday.
“Prima facie, it appears that fire broke out at an electric pole due to short circuiting and the sparks flew over the shops,” said police.
Later, the fire engulfed other shops.
“As many as two fire tenders were pressed into the job and contained the fire in thirty minutes. The owners are estimating the losses that they suffered in the incident,” said ADCP, North Zone, Prachi Singh.
A shop owner on condition of anonymity said that this short-circuit is frequent in the market and keeps happening due to pilfering issues.
“A probe will be conducted of the entire sequence of events which led to outbreak of fire,” said chief fire officer, Lucknow, Vijay Kumar Singh.
No injuries or casulaties were reported in the incident.
