Delhi: Ghazipur landfill fire continues till evening, no casualty; FIR filed

NEW DELHI: A case has been registered by Delhi Police to probe the fire that broke out at Ghazipur landfill site in east Delhi on Monday afternoon. Officers from Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said that efforts to contain the blaze continued till late on Tuesday.
DCP (East) Priyanka Kashyap said an FIR was registered under IPC sections 278 (making atmosphere noxious to health), 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) against unknown people to probe the incident.
Atul Garg, DFS director, said no casualties were reported. “Our men have been at work continuously. It is difficult to work at the site as poisonous gases are emanating from the garbage dump. We expect the fire to be completely doused by late at night. If the fire is suspected to have sparked due to mischief and not a rise in temperature, then it is a matter of police investigation,” he added.
