Fire on Maa flyover

Kolkata: Vehicles crawled on the Park Circus-bound flank of Maa Flyover during the morning peak hours on Monday as a fire broke out in a pile of garbage and electrical cables dumped in a cavity at the bottom of the steel arc of the flyover. The fire was spotted around 9.30am. At a point of time a portion of the flyover was covered with thick black smoke and traffic came to standstill due to poor visibility, making alarm bells ring in the traffic department.
Cops rushed to the flyover and so did a fire tender and doused the fire in good time, preventing its spread any further. Around the same time, two vehicles too had broken down on the flyover choking traffic further.
