Massive fire guts 12 shops in Kharadi

PUNE: Twelve shops were gutted in a massive blaze in front of Mahalaxmi Lawns near the old Octroi post in Kharadi around 9.30am on Wednesday.
No one was injured in the fire that started. It erupted due to a short-circuit in one of the shops.
Fire officer Ramesh Gangad of the Yerawada fire substation said, “The fire first broke out in a food joint due to a short-circuit. Soon after, a commercial gas cylinder also exploded before it could be removed safely. The impact of the blast was such that the fire enveloped 11 more shops, causing massive damage to the overall property.”
The shops operating in tin sheds at the spot are involved in businesses related to food joints, tea and snacks, furniture, spare parts and construction material, etc.
None of the shops had any fire safety equipment.
