Vijayawada: Battery of newly-bought electric two-wheeler explodes while charging, man dies
Updated: 2022-04-23
The joy of buying a new electric scooter quickly turned into a massive tragedy for K Siva Kumar’s family. The forty year-old had kept the scooter’s battery on charge at night when it exploded and started a fire in the room. Siva Kumar died due to the fire, while his wife and two children have suffered burn injuries. The incident highlights the risks associated with batteries of some electric scooters that catch fire or explode either due to malfunctioning parts or because of the intense summer heat in India. With a spate of battery fires being reported from across the country, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari issued a warning to manufactures to get quality issues sorted. The minister said the govt would take action after an expert panel set up by it to probe the fire incidents submitted its report.
