New Delhi: A major fire broke out at Amar Colony market in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Tuesday. The fire department said no one was injured in the incident.
Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), said a fire call was received at 2.40pm. “Fire started at a shop in the main market. Four shops and restaurants.were affected by the blaze, including two eateries, an optical shop and a printing press. A total of 10 fire tenders were rushed to the site. The blaze is under control and cooling operation are on,” Garg said.
According to the fire department, the cause of the fire was not known and no casualties have been reported. “Many combustible materials were at the spot, which acted as a catalyst spreading the fire,” an official said.
Later, it was found that one of the eateries had not renewed its health trade licence, for which they were prosecuted on March 9 and served show-cause notice on April 16, said an official of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
According to DFS, day temperatures are so high at present that any fire can take a menacing turn. TNN
