Garbage mound catches fire
Updated: 2022-04-30
Bokaro: Several pockets of BSL Township are living in discomfort after a portion of the garbage mound, located in a seven-acre plot between Sector 6 and Sector 11 residential pockets, caught fire recently.
“The dense smoke coming out of the garbage mound is causing air pollution in these areas. Several complaints have been made to the BSL management but they are yet to take a step in this regard,” Manoj Kumar, a resident of Sector 6 area, said on Friday. Besides Sector 6, residents of Sector 8 and Sector 11 are also facing problems caused by the smoke.
“It is yet to be ascertained how the mound caught fire as none did it on purpose,” a BSL official said on condition of anonymity. The BSL Township has 36,000 homes and a population of five lakh, however, it is yet to come up with a concrete solid waste management plan. When contacted, BSL’s chief of communication Manikant Dhan refused to comment.
