Heat sparks fire in Ramgarh Canal area in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER: With the increase in temperature, there is an increase in the incidents of fire in the Indira Gandhi Canal area in Jaisalmer. Due to shortage of fire tending resources, huge forest property is gutted.
A fire broke out at Indira Gandhi canal head 248 in Ramgarh Canal area in Jaisalmer on Thursday which was doused with great difficulty, but on Friday it started again and was doused by farmers after many hours. On Wednesday too, a fire had broken out in Ramgarh Canal area.
Mohangarh, Nachna and Ramgarh Canal areas in Jaisalmer district are spread on a huge area and due high temperatures fire breaks out in shrubs and forests.
The fire broke out at 4pm on Thursday at Tanot distributary and no officer or employee reached for over four hours. Due to strong winds, the fire spread over 500-700 metre area. Late in the evening, regional forest officer Om Prakash Vishnoi and other employees reached the spot and started fire control operations.
