One killed in shop blaze in HCM City

HCM CITY (VNS) – One person was killed in a fire that broke out at a furniture shop in HCM City at around 4pm on February 1, the second day of the Lunar New Year.
Nguyen Thao Phuong Dung, a 32-year-old resident from the Tan Binh district, who was in the building during the Tet (Lunar New Year festival), fell from the fourth floor of the Dang Duong Furniture Shop at 200 Ngo Gia Tu street, in District 10’s ward 4, while trying to escape the blaze.
The fire started at the mezzanine floor of the building and spread quickly because of the flammable nature of the furniture stored in the four-storey building.
The HCM City Fire Brigade sent fire engines and 60 firemen to the site and the blaze was contained in about 20 minutes.
Four other victims were rescued from the burning shop. They are Nguyen Thi Than, 90; Nguyen Thi Hao, 87; Nguyen Thi Thao, 60; and Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, 32. Others victims who suffered burns or smoke inhalation were immediately rushed to the Trung Vuong Hospital.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire. – VNS.
