Himachal Pradesh: Kinnaur forest under massive fire for past 3 days

SHIMLA: A massive forest fire near Jangi village of Kinnaur district has left the villagers worried about their safety while the Kinnaur district administration has pressed all its resources to bring the fire under control.
While the worried villagers are demanding from the government to involve helicopters to douse the forest fire, deputy commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq all the resources have been mobilised and with the help of perimeter, fire has been stopped from spreading towards the village, and most likely the wildfire will be brought under control by Sunday night.
According to sources, fire has spread in around 2-3 square km of forest area right above the village and tough terrain and inaccessible area makes it difficult for the fire tenders reach in the deep forest where extensive fire is going on for last couple of days.
Chhering Tandun, a resident of Jangi, said that massive fire has brought the Chilgoza trees under threat for last three days. Chilgoza pine is facing the risk of extinction with little or no natural regeneration and Jangi village is one of the main source of Chilgoza production in India.
He said that usually when forest fire take place local villagers extinguish it at local level but this time the scale of forest fire very extensive so it is not possible for the local population to control it. He said that people are demanding from the government to provide helicopter service to control this forest fire.
