Updated: 2022-06-12
Raipur: A major fire broke out in Capital’s J.N Pandey School building late on Friday night. A sudden blaze erupted in the back of the school store room leading to the spread of flames. The store had several pieces of furniture and books.
After the fire flared up, two fire engines reached the spot for extinguishing. The rescue operation continued for three hours. However, in the meantime, books and furniture worth lakhs were burnt into ashes. The old wooden shed was also burnt which was in the premises of the school.
As soon as the news of the incident broke out, Municipal Corporation Mayor Ejaz Dhebar and former minister, Raipur South MLA Brijmohan Agarwal also reached the spot. Brijmohan Agarwal, incidentally, has also been a student of this school. People who were nearby thought that it would be garbage fire, but gradually the fire took a formidable form. The fire department was called in a hurry after that. No staff and children were present in the school at that time. Only the watchman was present with his family. tnn
