Cars gutted in fire at automobile showroom yard in Raipur

RAIPUR: A massive fire broke out in the cars parked in the yard of an automobile showroom at Kosabadi-Risdi road in Korba district on Tuesday afternoon.
It was found that the fire started from one car in the yard, which later engulfed other vehicles parked nearby.
The fire was so massive that a smoke cloud was visible from four kilometers away. The fire could not be controlled initially due lack of arrangements to deal with such a situation.
After receiving the information fire engines from nearby industrial units reached the spot and brought the situation under control with great effort. Due to the intermittent strong wind, the fire was repeatedly raging in vehicles, for which the fire tenders had to use foam chemicals to get control over it. It took almost more than two hours to get the fire under control completely.
During preliminary investigation, it was found that new and old vehicles, including vehicles damaged in the crash, were kept in the same yard. The extent of the damage caused in the fire accident has not been assessed yet. Three vehicles in a nearby yard also caught fire but it did not spread further, preventing major fire in the nearby yard as well.
Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
