Lucknow: Fire in furniture godown, narrow escape for 6 people
Updated: 2022-06-18
LUCKNOW: Property worth lakhs were gutted while six persons had a narrow escape when fire broke out in a house-cum furniture godown in LDA colony of Krishnanagar on Friday.
The reason for the fire could not be ascertained, but it spread quickly because of wooden furniture. The blaze and the smoke billowing from the factory was visible in about a 2km radius, leading to panic in the area as the factory was in the residential area.
The owner of the house, Nand Lal, lives in Manaknagar. The manager of the godown and five staff members were present in the establishment at the time of fire. They first tried to douse the flames by themselves but failed to do so and had to run out of the factory and inform the fire safety department, said Chief Fire Safety Officer, Vijay Kumar Singh.
“It took four fire tenders from Alambagh, PGI and Sarojninagar several hours to douse the flames. We managed to control the fire on time, otherwise if it had spread to other houses in the area, the losses would have been huge,” he added.
“Primary investigation revealed that there was no fire safety equipment in the godown. A threadbare probe would be done to ascertain the reason behind the fire,” said Singh.
In another incident reported from the Kaiserbagh a fire broke out in a house of a fruit vendor. Two family members who got trapped in the smoke were evacuated by the extended ladder.
Fire officials said that two fire tenders from Hazratganj fire station were rushed to the spot and they controlled the blaze.
Reportedly fire broke out due to a short-circuit in the house.
