Fire at Purab Premium Apartments

Mohali: A fire broke out at Purab Premium Apartments on Monday but the fire alarms and smoke detectors failed to respond. The electrical distribution box went up in flames and two distribution boxes were completely gutted. However, a major tragedy was averted. The fire broke out in the basement at around 10am at the electrical distribution boxes. It continued for around two hours, said members of the Purab Premium Apartment Dwellers Association. “The fire alarm and smoke detectors are dysfunctional. Gmada has put lives of all residents at risk. It was also observed that some of the fire extinguishers were not working properly,” said Parwinder Singh, a resident. “Life and property of residents has been put to great risk in the absence of adequate fire and other safety norms. It was only the presence of mind of Parwinder Singh risked his life and used water type fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire, otherwise the whole tower would have caught fire,” said a resident. tnn
