Updated: 2022-06-26
PONDA: A car was wrecked at Dhavali in Ponda after a tree fell on it on Saturday afternoon. This was among the five incidents of tree falls that the Ponda central fire station registered on Saturday alone.
Divisional officer at the fire station, Rajendra Haldankar, said there were no casualties as the car was parked and had no occupants. Firemen soon cleared off the tree to avoid further damage to the vehicle, the officer said. A team headed by sub-officer Yashwant Gawas, driver operator Gunolo R Parab, and firefighters Babushi T Gaonkar and Anil Betodkar took 30 minutes to cut off the tree with a mechanised saw.
Ponda station fire officer Sushi Morajkar said five trees were cleared between 11am and 7pm, including one that fell onto a house at Koparwada, Curti, and another across the road at Haveli, which is on the outskirts of Ponda town.
