Man, 87, dies after room heater ignites quilt

An 87-year-old farmer in Suining, Sichuan province, died in a fire caused by an electric room heater he placed in bed with him, scol.com.cn reported.
After lunch on Wednesday, the old man’s grandson placed the heater near his bed to keep him warm. As he still did not feel warm enough, the old man took it into his bed, placing it under the quilt.
The grandson removed the heater immediately, said the report. However, when he went into the street that afternoon, the old man put the heater back in bed with him.
The stove set the quilt on fire, and the flames spread through the house. Rescuers found the old man’s dead body in the wreckage.
