KURUKSHETRA: A day after he was critically injured in a fire incident at a hotel room in Kurukshetra, Sonu of Kaithal district died undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh on Saturday evening, said the police.
On Friday, Sonu’s female “friend” Rita of Kaithal district was found dead when a fire gutted Room No. 202 of Hotel Krishna Mahal in Kurukshetra University (KU) police station.
Sonu was rescued by hotel staff and police with over 90% burn injuries.
KU police station house officer (SHO) inspector Rajpal said, “Deceased Sonu was serving as a soldier in the Indian Army and he had taken a hotel room on rent with his female friend Rita in Kurukshetra on Friday afternoon. Fire was noticed in their room by the hotel staff after which both persons were rescued critically burnt.”
Meanwhile, on the complaint of deceased Rita’s husband Rampal of Kaithal district, the Kurukshetra police registered a case against deceased Sonu under Section 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at KU police station on Friday.
In his complaint to police, Rampal said that his wife was a student of MA at a government college in Kurukshetra, and about 20 days ago, she had come to her maternal house in Kaithal to appear in examination.
“On Friday, Rita had come to Kurukshetra for her exam at college. I came to know that Rita and Sonu had booked Room No. 202 at Hotel Krishna Mahal in Kurukshetra, which caught fire. My wife Rita and Sonu were found burnt there. Sonu was admitted for treatment at hospital while Rita died after being burnt in fire”, said Rampal.
“On receiving information, we reached the hotel. Rita’s body was lying in Room No. 202 of the hotel and she had a slit injury mark on her neck. I have doubts about Sonu alluring my wife and taking her to the hotel room. He murdered her and to destroy her body, set her and himself on fire after pouring some inflammatory substance”, said Rampal.
SHO Rajpal said, “The post-mortem on deceased Rita was conducted at government medical college in Karnal on Saturday and the reason behind her death would come clear from the report. Her body was handed over to family members.”
SHO added that Sonu was critically injured and he died undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and we received information about his death at about 3.30 pm.
