Three women were killed and five others injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a microbus at Chittagong’s Fatikchharhi on Monday.
Police and fire fighters had initially reported four casualties.
Bhujpur Police OC Md Kabir Hossain later told bdnews24.com there had been three deaths, and that a 7-year old child, Promi Akhter, had been badly injured.
“She has suffered 70 percent burns,” said Kabir.
She and four others injured have been admitted to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Police said the cylinder burst had set the microbus on fire at Bhujpur’s Suabil area when the passengers were returning from Shah Amanat Airport with their relative Mohammad Shafi, who had returned from Dubai.
The deceased are Shafi’s mother Bulbuli Begum, his mother-in-law Halima Khatun and sister-in-law Parvin Akhter.
They were first taken to Upazila Health Centre but later transferred to CMCH.
Besides Promi, Lovely Akhter, 9, Sharmin Akhter, 11, Sumi Akhter, 11, and Moriom Begum, 52, have been admitted there.
Promi, Lovely and Sharmin are Shafi’s daughters, whereas Sumi is the daughter of his elder brother.
There were 17 of them when they left the airport said, Moriom, Shafi’s relative, told bdnews24.com.
“There was an explosion and microbus caught fire,” she said.
